AI Companion Report 18+ ONLY

Verification

Is Nomi.ai safe?

Nomi has one safety credential no other uncensored app in this category can claim, and it is hiding in plain sight: it ships in the App Store and on Google Play. That means it passed a review most of its competitors would fail — and it changes what happens if something goes wrong.

Disclosure. This site earns affiliate commission on some AI companion apps. Nomi is not one of them — we found no affiliate programme and earn nothing whether you subscribe or not. This page is favourable to an app that pays us nothing, which is the only kind of favourable verdict worth reading.

1. The credential nobody mentions: it passed app review

A third-party check most of this category has never faced

CONFIRMED Nomi distributes through the Apple App Store and Google Play. To be there, it had to pass developer identity verification, app review, and Apple's ongoing compliance requirements — and it has to keep passing them with every update.

Compare: Candy.ai, DreamGF, CrushOn.AI, SpicyChat and Muah.AI are all web-only. Not by choice — the app stores exclude explicitly adult companion apps, so those products ship as websites and have never been reviewed by anyone but themselves.

This is not a guarantee of anything. App review is not a security audit and Apple has approved plenty of bad software. But it is a real, repeated, third-party gate involving identity verification and a company with a reputation to protect — and in a category where the largest free platform names no legal entity at all, that gate is worth more than it sounds.

2. Is there a real company behind it?

Partly — better than most, thinner than the best

CONFIRMED Nomi is published by AI Glimpse Inc, named as the seller on its App Store listing. App Store seller names are verified by Apple, so this is a real, checkable business entity rather than a claim on a website.

UNVERIFIED We could not establish the company's jurisdiction or registration number from any source we could reach. Candy.ai publishes both — EverAI Limited, Malta, registration C107181. Nomi does not.

Ranked against the category: better than Janitor AI and Muah.AI, which name nobody. Slightly behind Candy.ai and DreamGF, which publish full corporate details. Well behind Character.AI, which is a named Delaware corporation with a Menlo Park address and public litigation history.

3. What happens to what you type?

Clean record, but no proof either way

NOT ESTABLISHED No publicly confirmed breach. Nomi does not appear in the Have I Been Pwned database. It was also not among the eleven apps Mozilla audited in February 2024 — so it neither passed nor failed that review.

There is also no published security audit, no penetration test, and no bug bounty. The honest position is "nothing has gone wrong that we know of," not "it is secure."

Why that distinction matters here more than in ordinary software: when Muah.AI was breached in September 2024, the exposed data was 1.9 million accounts including users' prompts and stated sexual fetishes. People were being extorted with it within three days, and Have I Been Pwned classified the breach as too sensitive to be publicly searchable. Nomi is uncensored, so what you type into it is the same class of data. The full record is here.

Practical rule, same as every app in this category: a dedicated email address, a unique password, and no real name, employer or city in conversation. The app-store gate does not change that advice.

4. Will it charge you what it says?

Apple handles your money, and that is a real advantage

Nomi bills through Apple and Google in-app purchases. Refund requests go to the platform — reportaproblem.apple.com on iOS, or Play order history on Android — with a published process, human review, and an appeal.

Compare the web-billed alternatives: Candy.ai gives you 24 hours, and the refund dies once you spend 20 tokens. For DreamGF we could not find a published refund policy at all. Full comparison here.

One pricing fact to go in with

Nomi's App Store listing still shows a legacy "Launch Plan" at $9.99/month and $59.99/year next to the current $15.99 and $99.99 tiers. That is documentary evidence the price rose 60% on monthly and 67% on annual, with older accounts grandfathered.

You cannot get the Launch Plan. The direction of travel is up, which is an argument for the annual plan if you're going to stay. Full pricing breakdown.

UNVERIFIED Free tier limits. A free tier exists and is advertised as requiring no credit card, but the limits are published nowhere we could reach — nomi.ai/faq returns a 404. Any site quoting a specific free message cap for Nomi invented it.

5. The part app review does not cover

Uncensored, with no age assurance we could identify

Nomi describes itself as built on "freedom of expression" and is uncensored. We found no age verification or age assurance mechanism beyond the app stores' own 17+/18+ rating gate, which is a self-declared checkbox.

California's SB 243 now imposes duties on companion chatbot operators — disclosing the AI, self-harm protocols, crisis referral, break reminders for minors, and preventing sexually explicit content for minors — with a private right of action and minimum damages of $1,000. It applies to anyone making a companion chatbot available in California.

Character.AI, which is filtered and has lawyers, responded to this environment by ending open-ended chat for under-18s entirely in November 2025. We found no comparable announcement from Nomi.

So, is it safe?

Financially: yes, and it is the best-protected purchase in this category. Apple and Google handle the billing, which means a real refund process with an appeal instead of a company policy you have to argue with. Know that the price has risen once and the annual plan locks your rate.

For your data: unproven, but with better foundations than most. No breach, a verified seller identity, and repeated third-party app review. That is a stronger starting position than any web-only app here. It is still not an audit, and the jurisdiction gap means you don't know which country's regulator would hear a complaint.

The comparison that matters: Nomi is the safest of the uncensored apps, largely because distributing through the app stores forced it to be. If you want uncensored *and* accountable, this is the closest the category gets. If accountability matters more than the filter, Character.AI is the more accountable product and you accept the filter as the price.

What we'd still do: throwaway email, unique password, nothing identifying in conversation. The app-store gate protects your wallet. It does not protect your prompts.
